Gusto Artisan Foods began life in Leith, Edinburgh. Originally known simply as ‘Gusto-Catering’, the business was born when owners Rachael and Steve decided to change their lives and buy a street food truck to feed the masses at festivals and events throughout Scotland.
“We love travelling to Italy, and decided on the
name whilst dining at a restaurant called Gusto
on the banks of the river Tiber in Rome. Gusto
translates as ‘taste’, which is perfect as great
taste is what we’re all about!”
Rachael Cousins, Gusto Director
Rachael’s creativity extended to making sauces, marinades and dressings to accompany the various dishes Gusto was providing, and more and more customers asked if these were available to buy too. This led to some experimental offerings at Stockbridge Market, in Edinburgh, and the launch of Gusto Artisan Foods in Oct 2012.
“The Gusto stall with its delicious oils and vinegars
is a firm favourite. Our go-to product is the Herb Oil;
really delicious and versatile, made using cold-pressed
Scottish rapeseed oil with basil, parsley,
green chilli and garlic.”
Jeannie Murray, Stockbridge Market customer
Since then, Gusto Artisan Foods has built a strong reputation in the premium products market. Gusto dressings, oils and balsamics have had great feedback and have won some prestigious awards, most notably from the BBC Good Food Show as an “exceptional British producer” in 2012, and a Great Taste Gold Award in 2013.
“I use Herb Oil or Lemon Oil when steaming fish,
it gives a really fresh taste – the wow factor”
Stuart Perkin, Professional Chef
