Hello, my name is Jeff and I am the founder of Cloudy Apple. I started my apple juice adventure back in November 2014 and here’s how it began…
I was working on my parent’s apple farm, called Stud Farm, based in Worcestershire. I was looking for ways we could diversify and become more sustainable. The farm grows predominately Bramleys (the ones you stick in your apple crumble) and these are sold to supermarkets. We also grow a selection of dessert apples, called Fiestas, which we use for the Toffee Apples we make (see www.studfarmfruit.co.uk) . However, we are unable to send many of the Bramleys to supermarket as they are misshapen or deemed the wrong colour (they need to be green and perfectly round). The apples that are unsuitable for the shelf are sent off in big lorries to be used in juice for a fraction of the price.
This fact, the quality and the variety of apples we had on the farm made making our own apple juice an easy decision. We had also been told on a number of occasions that the blend of the sour Bramley and the sweet Fiesta made a fantastic juice, exactly the apples we grew!
We were also acutely aware that there are many other apple juice brands on the market but so few are made by the farmers that grow the apples. One of the reasons Cloudy Apple is unique is that we can track the apple the whole duration of its life – from blossom to bottle. We farm the apples AND we make the juice.
In November 2014 we bottled our first juice and haven’t looked back since!
To help you have an insight into why I love my farm, here are some photos and also sneak peak of the apple juice making process.
