Overview

PURSLANE – CASUAL FINE DINING IN THE STUNNING STOCKBRIDGE AREA

Based in the stunning area of Stockbridge on St. Stephen Street Purslane restaurant is the epitome of rustic, casual fine dining. Run by head chef and owner Paul Gunning, Purslane serve a large variety of freshly prepared dishes, delivering an intense, high quality of flavour with every mouthful. Purslane is all about, fresh local produce with a mix of old and new techniques using worldwide influences.

Blending a laidback setting and continental-style fine dining flavours, Purslane offers an elegant retreat in Edinburgh. Contemporary work from local artist Andrew Lennie is dotted across the walls.

Paul Gunning bought Purslane’s premises almost on a whim, and his bet on the teeny restaurant has paid off. Packed out even midweek in winter, the combination of unfussy but interesting, well-sourced and presented food appeals to couples and small parties looking for a step up from a jeans-and-t-shirt neighbourhood restaurant.

Paul’s career has seen him work everywhere from London to Brittany via Australia and his CV includes stints at Gusto, The Balmoral. The Lowry in Manchester, La Garrigue and Dalhousie Castle.

An expertly compiled wine list at Purslane Edinburgh features a stock of award-winning whites and reds, as well as classic Scottish whiskies from the bar. For a taste of indulgence, creative dessert flavours include a zesty citrus zabaglione, or smooth pumpkin crème brulee.

A chic dining room at Purslane restaurant combines a cosy, rustic vibe and cosmopolitan features. Whether you are just taking a stroll through Stockbridge and decide to stop in whilst passing or decide to book your table in advance, there is no dress code so you can enjoy the same experience even if your just after a casual, relaxed meal. However, we would recommend booking in advance where possible, as Purslane is so cosy and intimate. Space for tables is limited.

Boasting a kitchen team who have mastered their craft at various Michelin-starred and AA Rosette adorned restaurants, the Purslane menu offers an elegant selection of cuisine. Showcasing flawless presentation and using tried and trusted suppliers from the local area, favourites include seared tuna loin with vegetable gateaux and black olive tapenade, or roast duck breast with creamed cabbage.
