NOBLES – AN ELEGANT VICTORIAN CAFE-BAR WITH STAINED-GLASS WINDOWS

It’s not hard to see why this big Victorian bar draws in locals and tourists for its real ales, music and food. From the colourful stained-glass windows and large wood panelled bar to the maritime décor, the look is impressive and the atmosphere lively.

INNOVATIVE FRESH COOKING

At Nobles they use only the best ingredients which are locally sourced & freshly prepared to order. The food is  more sophisticated than the usual pub grub: a duck and sweet potato ravioli is a delicate Asian-inspired affair infused with chilli and star anise.

Locally sourced fish features heavily on the menu, such as baked mackerel spiked with the citrus hit of preserved lemons, or a meaty bream. Fans of burgers won’t be disappointed either – there’s even a rabbit version when in season.

At weekends the brunch menu has a particularly good selection of eggs done in various ways, home-made pancakes and of course the full cooked breakfast.

Top it off with an ‘oh so chocolatey’ brownie drenched in velvety sauce, or a boozy cranachan knickerbocker glory and you’re in comfort food heaven.

They  take their food seriously, but not so much as to marginalise those seeking liquid refreshment. Nobles offers a good selection of beers, Scottish brewers are very well represented as are their favourite international producers of wines beers & spirits.

DECOR

With huge colourful stained-glass windows and original Victorian features, Nobles has a wonderful old-world quality that just can’t be faked. But there’s nothing archaic about this venue with its fresh and artistic furnishings.

The decorations are fantastic, a little eccentric, but largely in theme with the Port of Leith and the old trading ships that helped keep Edinburgh on the map. Impressive stained glass windows, a combination of dark wood and tiles on the floor, quirky and comfortable furniture.

The high ceiling and windows on both ends keep the place light and they manage to tuck a number of tables into the room without overcrowding it.
