Scotland’s fastest growing gin brand, Edinburgh Gin, has this week won four prestigious awards at the 2016 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC.)

Seen as an international benchmark for quality, IWSC upgraded Original Edinburgh Gin's previous ‘Silver’ medal to ‘Silver Outstanding’ and the latest addition to the core range, Edinburgh Seaside Gin was awarded a ‘Silver’ medal.  Originally featured as a limited edition, the spirit of Scotland’s shores, Edinburgh Seaside Gin, only became part of the core gin range this summer due to popular demand, after a sell-out run of 2,500 bottles.

The coveted annual competition saw entrants from 30 different countries worldwide undertake the rigorous judging process and the highly competitive Gin category saw entries increase by 200% since 2013, a testament to the gin renaissance.

Both Original Edinburgh Gin and Edinburgh Seaside Gin were awarded ‘Gold’ medals for packaging.  Presented in custom-made bottles, Edinburgh Gin’s core range bottles are crafted in Milan by Bruni Glass. Ergonomically designed for bartenders, the bottles each feature etched lettering, stylistically inspired by the sophistication of the Art Deco era.

Alex Nicol, Co-founder of Edinburgh Gin said:

“The IWSC awards are a stamp of excellence and recognition of our pursuit of quality, we are delighted to have been awarded ‘Silver Outstanding’ for Original Edinburgh Gin, ‘Silver’ for Edinburgh Seaside Gin as well as two 'Gold' awards for packaging. 2016 has been a great year for Edinburgh Gin, with our gins now sold around the world and innovation continuing to drive the company and the way we do business.

We are proud to be at the vanguard of the Scottish gin renaissance continually pushing boundaries by bringing the science of distilling to the fore with our long-standing partnership with Heriot-Watt University’s MSc in Brewing & Distilling.

With the opening of our second distillery in the historic gin port of Leith, we have doubled growth this year, with 50% year on year increase since 2010 and quadrupling production capacity. We also pleased won a Gold medal this month at The Country Life Great British Gin Awards 2016 for Edinburgh Gin Cannonball Navy Strength.”

This year Scotland swept the board of the IWSC, winning five trophies and 427 medals, as well as taking home 73 of the Gold and Gold Outstanding accolades, proving that Scotland continues to be internationally renowned as a nation of distillers.
