A Medieval Banquet with Boston & Hawthorne

Boston & Hawthorne is located in Dean Street, Stockbridge. Slightly hidden away, it is a nice brightly lit ‘gastro pub’ with a difference. We were invited along to experience one of their ‘themed nights’, a Medieval Banquet! What was on the menu? Meat and Mead!

The format of the evening was explained to us by our waiter as we sat enjoying our mead. Basically, a big plank of wood with a variety of different meats and potatoes was going to be brought to the table for us to share, cutlery was optional, and there would be a flagon of wine to help wash it down!

The selection included sausage and duck, but the main attraction was a large chunk of smoked wild venison. Unsurprisingly, all the meat was cooked very rare, what was a surprise was that the venison was served cold. In fact, the only hot food on the board was the arancini!

The quality of the produce used at Boston & Hawthorne is extremely good. All the meat coming from acclaimed local butcher George Bower.

The concept is certainly unique to Edinburgh, perfect for a party, work night out, or simply a group of friends, the sharing board brings a level of fun you are unlikely to find elsewhere. For a table of 6 (like we were), it will cost you £120, this includes a bottle of meads each and your wine! When it breaks down, this represents excellent value.

At this time of year, if you are looking for something a bit different for a Christmas Party, then this might just fit the bill. Sit back, let the food come to you, and get involved! Boston & Hawthorne will look after you.
